As part of the effort to establish a sustainable, cutting-edge educational product, Our Lady of the Lake has a unique school governance model that allows an elected School Board to have a more prominent role in working with the Pastor to govern the school.  These bylaws have been approved by the Archdiocese and are available for anyone to review.

DANNY PATTERSON, CHAIR

(TECHNOLOGY SEAT 2016-2018)

My wife, Melissa, our three kids and I are relatively new to the OLL Community. We moved to the area in 2011 and our three kids have been attending OLL ever since. Professionally, I own and operate a software consulting firm specializing in custom software development. I joined the School Advisory Committee in 2012, I worked to build the school website, and I played a key role on the SOS Committee and I served on the school Transition Committee.  I was also the primary author of our School Board bylaws and I served on the past two Principal Search Committees. I pride myself in being a person of action. I pledge to continue using my talents and resources to continue moving our school towards excellence.

MARY AMENT-JOHNSON, Vice Chair

(TECHNOLOGY SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIR 2015-2017)

I have a B.A. in Business and for nearly 20 years, I have worked in the IT Industry. My husband, Mike, and I have been members of OLL since 1992. We have two children.  Kate attended OLL through eighth grade and is currently attending Holy Family Catholic High School.  Anna is currently a 6th grader at OLL. We knew prior to our children being born that they would be attending OLL, no questions asked. I attended Catholic school and I am very passionate about Catholic education. OLL has given our children an outstanding academic education and has fostered their spiritual growth by allowing them the opportunity to speak about and act out their faith daily with their peers. If chosen as an OLL school board member, I will work collaboratively within our school and church community to develop and implement technology best practices, to ensure that finances are managed appropriately to guarantee the longevity of OLL Catholic Church and School, and, most importantly, I will make certain that decisions being made are in the best interest of the children.


Laurie Herder, Secretary

My Husband Steve and I moved to Mound in 2001 from Cedar Rapids, IA with our two children Elizabeth and Joe. It didn’t take long for us to feel at home at Our Lady of the Lake Church.  We found it to be a welcoming parish where we could worship and grow in our faith. I joined the choir and my husband got involved in the Knights of Columbus. We have been active members ever since and have made some of our closest friends here.

Shortly after moving to Mound I decided to put my teaching credentials to work by volunteering and eventually working for the Westonka Public Schools.  Soon after, my third child was born. I continued to stay in the loop as a substitute teacher. This led to long-term sub assignments and eventually a call from OLL to join their staff. This was the beginning of my ten year run as a fourth grade teacher and combined third and fourth grade teacher at this wonderful school. My youngest child, Charlie attended OLL for 8 years.

I have grown to love this school and all that it represents. It has laid a foundation of faith and values for my son that is undeniable. The only question now is who has learned more, the children or me? That’s the unexpected surprise that creeps up on you here. This school is a true sanctuary and a gift for all young and old who are able to take part.

 

 

RICK EPPLE, FINANCE SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIR

My wife Madalyn and I have been members of the parish since 1993. We have two children, Bridget, is a Junior at University of MN and Evan is senior at Holy Family Catholic High School. They both attended OLL through eighth grade. I graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Engineering. Epple Financial Advisors was founded in 2002 and I have helped mainly business owners by providing comprehensive fee only planning services.  I am currently active as an OLL usher, co-chair for the OLL Festival Beer Garden, teach OLL Middle School Junior Achievement, KC Member, and National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) Ethics Committee.  I am passionate about OLL School and the education it provided our children. My desire to run is based on seeing what great kids OLL helps create. I would like to use my talents to help ensure OLL is here for the next 60 years!


KELLY MONETTE, Marketing & Enrollment Subcommittee Chair

My husband Brian and I our parish members with two children currently at our Lady of the lakes school in kindergarten and preschool. I believe that a faith based Catholic education gives children the ideals to be well-rounded young adults with a servants heart. I received  a BA in History and political science from the University of Montana Missoula. I have 13 year Experience  managing marketing and sales teams in the education and medical manufacturing industries. I am currently serving as the marketing chair on Our Lady of the Lake school board.

Gretchen Chilson, Education Subcommittee Chair

I have been a member of OLL Parish for approximately 9 years.  I joined this community when I married my husband, Bob, and moved to Mound.  Our twin boys, Jacob and Robbie, are currently in first grade at OLL.  I have been active in the parish, helping with junior high Youth Group on Wednesday nights and Vacation Bible School during the summers.  I am a teacher in the Westonka School district, teaching band to 5th-12th graders at Grandview Middle School and Mound Westonka High School.  I hope to use my experience as a parent, teacher and volunteer to aid me in serving on the school board for Our Lady of the Lake.

Moe Smith

(At-Large Seat 2016-2018)

My name is Moe Sarah smith and I am running for the school board. I have two children, Annabelle kindergarten and Henry 2nd. The three top attributes that I bring to this position are dedication, experience and versatility. I am dedicated to OLL because I have two small children that will be attending OLL for many years to come. I have a direct vested interest in the school succeeding and being the best that it can for my family and community. I believe strongly in Catholic education I graduated from an Benilde-St. Margaret's and went on to St Thomas. At my core I believe that our community and country needs Catholic school education and I am committed to raising my children in the faith.  We graduate intelligent citizens with a strong moral compass.

I do not have direct experience working on a school board, but I do have 12 years of experience running a successful business. I currently directly manage 12 employees and regularly encounter 100+ patients a week as a chiropractor. This gives me a unique perspective on working with a myriad of personalities and problem-solving.
Versatility is potentially my most valuable skill. In my business I have to wear multiple hats simultaneously. Marketing to managing finance to practitioner. I consistently balance these tasks on a minute to minute basis.  Additionally I volunteer at the school was on the PTO school board last year taught a class on heart health to the junior high and coached my children's hockey team the last two seasons. I look forward to serving Our Lady of the Lake being a board member and utilizing my skills to improve the School in any way that I can. Thanks for your consideration.


Aline Ostrowski

As a marketing professional, I genuinely enjoy developing plans that contribute to something bigger than a single campaign, program or calendar.  For me it's about the long-term potential that exists when connections are real.  I enjoy analyzing the numbers and the data that tell me who to talk and when, and have fun crafting the creative elements that deliver the right customer experience.

Currently I am the director of Loyalty and CRM at Buffalo Wild Wings, and have more than 15 years' experience as a marketing professional with a variety of industries.

Alan Bear

(Finance Seat 2016-2018)

My wife Andrea and I moved to Mound in May of 2014 seeking the recreational and aesthetic opportunities afforded through residing in a small lakeshore community.  However, as our children grew, we realized the vibrant life around the area was less dependent upon the lake and its physical amenities.   More so, we found the heart of Mound focuses on OLL and its welcoming faith community.  By day I serve as Vice President of DLC Manufacturing and Fabrication, Inc. which stimulates my creativity and business acumen simultaneously.  To ensure I (we) do not become burdened with too much free time outside rearing our 4 boys (2 of whom presently attend OLL with a 3rd waiting to be old enough), my wife and I also own interest in two other companies: Bear Market Intelligence (an industrial consulting operation) and Black Bear Design Studios (an industrial design and furniture manufacturing operation). 

 

Outside the private sector, my education and early career experience is in the realm of Speech and English secondary education.  My education and business experience uniquely position me to align several core passions with OLL in service enriching its educational and fiscal operations.  As a parish, we harbor a tremendous gift and responsibility in maintaining a Catholic School of excellence.  I will proudly serve on the School Finance Committee to ensure one of our parish's most treasured gifts remains ready to service those seeking Christ in education and example.
